 Gathering of Friends  New Books

 

Every other year the Friend Family Association of America holds a Gathering of our organization and members to research our genealogy, hold seminars, and to elect our Board of Director positions that are due to expire.

The Gathering Committee has worked hard on the plans for the 2008 Gathering of Friends.  The next Gathering of Friends will be held at Lancaster, Ohio on June 13, 14 and 15. 2008.

THE SCHEDULE

Friday, June 13For early arrivals, there will be several interesting opportunities.                             3:00 P. M. there will be a guided walking tour of the historic district.                                                          Also, the famous General Sherman house will be open for visitors.                                                   Many Friend genealogical books will be there for our browsing throughout the weekend.

5:00 P. M. we enjoy a buffet dinner at the Inn.  The program will look back at our ancestor’s lifestyle.  We will also have music and fun.  (Louise Pence and her partner, Mary, will dress in the style our ancestors wore.)

Saturday, June 14 Complimentary breakfast at the Inn.                                                                         9:00 A. M.  Opening Ceremonies City of Lancaster welcome. “Share and Tell” — All those in attendance are Invited to tell the group about their Friend connection and history.  We expect some good stories.  Also, those attending are invited to bring  pictures or artifacts to share (optional).

12:00 Noon A delicious picnic style buffet lunch.

1:00 P. M.  A presentation of Friend history and genealogy in this Ohio area by local historians.

2:00 P.M.   A brief description and history of the New Salem area we will be visiting.

2:15 P.M.  A trip to New Salem cemetery, where many Friend ancestors are buried. 

Tombstone rubbing materials will be provided.  Rachel Rose Friend, the widow of Joseph Friend (Friend’s Cove, PA) is buried here, along with her sons, 

They are the ancestors of a great many members of the Friend Family Association. (Time permitting, we will stop for a visit to another Friend cemetery.)

5:45 P.M. A group picture will be taken

.6:00 P.M. A festive banquet.  There will be music, door prizes, and a program on the history and culture of this area where so many

Friends came long ago, and where many of their descendents now live.  This is always a fun evening.

Sunday, June 15 Complimentary breakfast at the Inn

.9:00 A.M. Devotions

10:00 A. M. The formal association annual meeting with the election of trustees and other business that may come before the group.

The traditional closing friendship circle, and “good-bye.” 

We will have a lot of information on the many places of interest for those who may wish to stay longer.

THE LANCASTER INN

We will be here June 13 14 and 15, 2008 for the next Gathering of Friends,  The Lancaster Inn has a block of rooms re-served for us (June 13 and 14).  Double rooms are $62.00 plus tax per day.  Call in for your reservation at 740-653-3040.  All of our meetings will be held here. Come and meet new cousins and renew friendships.

  Elections for FFAA Board of Trustees will be held at the 

                              June 2008 Gathering

                                in Lancaster, Ohio.

 The FFAA will hold elections for eight Board of Trustee positions at the 2008 FFAA Gathering in Lancaster, Ohio in June.  As per the current By- Laws, one FFAA member of the Board of Trustees is to serve on the Nominating Committee.  First Vice President Pat Thompson offered to fill this position on the committee.  Pat will be joined by life member Mary Lou Fritz, (wife of Past President, Don Fritz) and immediate Past President, Ivory Steinard.                                                                                                                           As a result of the By-Law change approved at the 2006 Gathering, Board members serve a two year term.  The only exception to this is Pat Thompson who was elected to a 6 year term that expires in 2010. In 2010 this position will also become a 2 year term.

 Any member of the FFAA in good standing is eligible to run for a position of Trustee.  If you would like to nominate anyone for the Board please E-mail your nominations to: Nomination@friendfamilyassociation.org .

The FFAA has many on-going activities and welcomes the help and support of all interested members of the Association.  The slate for the eight positions will be published in the spring edition of the Friendship News.   Included will be a brief biography of each of the candidates.If you have any questions about the duties, and responsibilities of Board members, please feel free to contact anyone on the Nominating Committee through the two addresses provided above.
